What Causes Dandruff
Dandruff is a condition that affects many people. Dandruff causes a lack of confidence and self esteem because of the self conscience effect of the very evident flaking. I know that when I suffer with severe dandruff, I feel that I cannot wear dark clothing, as it really makes it stand out. I’ve found from my own experiences, that it strikes when you least want it too. I have found that when I’m about to enter a stressful situation, it comes on hard, so stress is definitely a factor of what causes dandruff as well.
Clinically, What Causes Dandruff
Severe dandruff can strike at any time, even if you are actively treating it. It is an itchy skin disorder of the scalp that occurs during the normal process of the scalp’s skin replacing skin cells. Normally, old skin cells die and lost approximately every month and fresh replacement cells take their place. Dandruff causes the cells to be sloughed off before they are dead. Most skin experts believe that this condition that causes dandruff is associated with a tiny fungus called Pityrosporum ovale. This fungus normally lives on our bodies and scalp all the time without causing issues. For some of us, this fungus goes out of control causing the effect mentioned above.
Naturally Combating Severe Dandruff
I’ve read that nutrition can play a big part in controlling severe dandruff. I’ve seen that if we include plenty of vitamin B, garlic and oil of oregano in our diets, it will fight off dandruff. Probably keep vampires away too, but I digress.
I’ve tried to use specialty shampoos, such as Head and Shoulder, which I don’t recommend. I’ve also used Nizoral for some time as a supplement to my normal shampooing with a far bit of success. I have found though that sometimes I would still have severe dandruff while using Nizoral and I would have to double up my usage for a couple of weeks to bring it back under control.
What Causes Dandruff - External Causes
Poor hygiene can definitely be a contributing factor to dandruff. Also, excessive use of products such as gels and hair sprays or improper use of hair-coloring products. What causes dandruff too is excessive use of curling irons or hair curlers, low humidity conditions such as winter or dry indoor heating and finally inadequate rising of cleansing agents when washing your scalp. Finally, avoid any hair products that contain alcohol which can also dry out the scalp.
From my own experience, what causes dandruff, are all of the above conditions. I avoid them all like the plague. I have found that there is no cure for dandruff either.
Other Natural Remedies for Severe Dandruff
I do know that having your scalp massaged will definitely help out dandruff. I will usually do a through cleansing of my scalp after to remove all of the excessive flakes. I do find that brushing my hair definitely helps as well. It seems to rejuvenate the scalp and reduce the itching.
It’s rare that I’ll mention a product when it comes to a body condition, but I’ve come across a product that has really been effective against dandruff and what causes dandruff. It is a hair care product supplied by a company called Melaleuca. It is their brand named shampoo called Melaleuca Original Shampoo. I was skeptical about it when I tried it, but I’ve now been using it for about a year, and I can say without a shadow of a doubt, it works fantastic! It contains provitamin B and vitamin E plus the active ingredient is their patented Melaleuca Oil. I shampoo with it every second day and I use their normal brand conditioner as a completion to shampooing as well.
What are the results?
What causes dandruff has become a thing of the past for me. I’ve only suffered maybe one or two minor outbreaks of dandruff in the past year and better, my scalp doesn’t itch at all any more. I did do a bit of research on this product, and it seems to be the Melaleuca oil that makes the difference. This oil is really their version of tea tree oil, from what I gather, and it is an effective anti-infective agent. It reduces the amount of this fungus to what causes dandruff.
I hope that this article has been interesting and informative for combating severe dandruff and has also taught you a bit of what causes dandruff. I would be pleased if you left your comments about severe dandruff, how you’ve combated it and other possible dandruff causes that you’ve discovered.
Update!!!
In my continued search for great products at great prices, I’ve come across another supplier of a tea tree based shampoo and conditioner for those of us who suffer from dandruff. I’ve found anything with tea tree oil in it to be extremely effective and very safe to use. Tea tree is a natural anti-fungant and unlike most dandruff shampoos that rely on man-made solutions, continues to be effective for as long as you use it.
